12 Plays of Christmas – Day 4 – If You Were Born Today by Low

17 Dec

Low’s Christmas EP, released in 1999,  is an indie classic. Probably most famous for it’s sleighbell-driven opener, Just Like Christmas, the other seven tracks are more downbeat but equally beautiful.

If You Were Born Today sees the Minnesota band muse about the Christ Child’s turn-of-the-century survival chances: “If you were born today/They’d kill you by age eight,” it begins. There’s no Christmas chintz here – just wonderful music.
